Panda Nation Basics

What is Panda Nation?

Panda Nation is a community of supporters who are fundraising to help WWF protect wildlife and wild places around the world. Panda Nation fundraising allows you to take a more active role in saving our planet by creating your own web page and raising funds to help support WWF's conservation work. Create a campaign to honor your loved one, showcase your favorite pet or species, fundraise for your athletic event, organize your community fundraiser, celebrate a special occasion or collaborate with your classroom. Connect with other Panda Nation members who are passionate about the saving the environment. Panda Nation is a fun and simple way to get involved with WWF's conservation efforts and do your part to save our living planet.

Why should I create a Panda Nation campaign?

  • To celebrate your birthday, bar/bat mitzvah, or wedding
  • To honor someone dear to you with a contribution to a meaningful cause
  • To share a photo of your favorite animal or your fundraising event
  • To make a difference with your upcoming marathon, walk or other athletic event
  • To dedicate a page to your favorite animal or pet
  • To tell your story and support WWF
  • To connect with others who share your passion for wildlife conservation, animals and the environment
  • To raise funds to help save some of our world's most iconic animals and natural places

Which type of Panda Nation campaign should I create?

Have a classroom that might like to learn more about wildlife and our environment? Create your personalized WWF in the Classroom campaign and rally your classroom around a good cause.

How is Panda Nation different from Panda Pages?

Panda Nation has more exciting features than Panda Pages, WWF’s former fundraising pages, had. With Panda Nation, you can create a team with its own fundraising goal and invite your family and friends to join your team by creating their own pages to benefit that fundraising goal. We’re providing you more recognition for your hard work as well--you’ll receive achievement and milestone badges each time you improve your page or reach certain fundraising levels. Social sharing features will allow you to share your personal and team pages directly on Facebook, Twitter and Google+, and others can write notes on your page via a social-enabled commenting wall.

What’s the difference between a personal page and a team page?

A personal page is your individual page that you create to fundraise for WWF. A team page is a page that is attached to one or more personal pages, which you can find listed on the team page’s roster, and they all share the team’s fundraising goal. Donors can contribute to a personal page, team page or both!

What are the terms and conditions of WWF's Panda Nation?

When you join Panda Nation, you must agree to the following waiver:
My use of Panda Nation is subject to WWF's Privacy Policy and Site Terms. I grant WWF and the WWF network a non-exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, royalty free license to use, modify, and sublicense this content for any purpose. I will not use Panda Nation or its email tools made available to me in any illegal, untruthful, or objectionable manner, or for any commercial purpose or for compensation. If I am using Panda Nation to honor another person, I represent that I have obtained the legal permission to do so. Getting Started

What do I need to create my Panda Nation campaign?

  1. A valid e-mail and physical address to register
  2. The content that you wish to include on the page
  3. A photo or video you would like to include

Panda Nation is great for individuals, groups, nonprofits, and educational institutions. If you represent a for-profit company, please contact us at pandanation@wwfus.org.

How do I begin building my Panda Nation campaign?

Go to pandanation.org and find the "Get Started" section. Click on the "Get Started" button for the type of page you choose. Follow the easy, step-by-step registration process to create your page or team.

What should I put on my Panda Nation page?

Panda Nation gives you a place to express your passion for wildlife conservation and the tools to make a difference by raising funds to support WWF's conservation work. Your page features a text section, profile photo or video, social commenting wall, social share links, fundraising honor roll and fundraising thermometer.

Here are some suggestions for "themes" for the text section:

  • Highlight your favorite pet or species and explain why it is important to you
  • Use your page to celebrate a birthday, wedding, graduation, holiday, anniversary or bar/bat mitzvah and explain why your friends should make gifts to WWF via your page
  • Dedicate your page to a loved one and share why they are special
  • Keep alive the memory of someone dear to you because of the impact they've had on your life
  • Blog about current conservation issues in the news and why people should care
  • Update family and friends on your athletic event training

Some style hints:
  • Try not to type your story in ALL CAPITAL LETTERS. This makes the page difficult to read and is the web equivalent of SHOUTING.
  • Make sure to spell check your page before publishing.
  • Start a new paragraph after every 4 or 5 sentences. Your page will be much easier to read.

How do I add a photo to my page?

First, make sure your photo is in .gif, .jpg, or .png format. Crop or resize your image to 300 pixels by 300 pixels. Photos must be no larger than 1.5Mb.

You can also use WWF images from the Panda Nation Photo Album. Go to the Panda Nation Photo Album and browse through a variety of animal and place photos. Once you've selected a photo you'd like to use, right click on the image and choose "Save Picture As." Save the image to a location on your computer that is easy to find. Then go into your Panda Nation Center and click on your Personal Page section (or Team Page if you have one). You'll see the photos/videos section on the right for your page.
