Salmon Aquaculture Dialogue Draft Indicators

Please provide your feedback on the draft indicators that have been developed by the Salmon Aquaculture Dialogue Steering Committee. Download the document in English and Spanish. Then complete and submit the form below. The deadline for providing feedback is December 15, 2009. The Steering Committee will use your feedback, as well as input on the indicators received at the Dialogue’s November 17-18 meeting in Norway, to revise the draft indicators.

Of most value will be your concrete, not general, suggestions. We also would like your thoughts on whether the suite of indicators sufficiently address the range of key impacts associated with salmon farming.

The draft indicators represent what will be measured in order to determine the extent of the key environmental and social impacts related to salmon aquaculture. While some indicators in the document reflect a strong consensus of the Dialogue’s Steering Committee, other proposed indicators are still under discussion. In some places in this document, the Steering Committee has yet to choose between several options for an indicator. Sections of the document where draft indicators are most tentative are highlighted in italics.

Ultimately, the indicators will be used to create standards for the salmon aquaculture industry. The standards will be quantitative performance levels that producers must meet in order to become certified.
