I am writing you today to ask you to lend your voice in support of cleaner air and a safer planet. Last month, the Environmental Protection Agency issued the first-ever carbon pollution standards for power plants in the United States. These common sense rules will limit the amount of dangerous carbon pollution that power plants can produce--pollution that is harming the health of our children, warming our planet, and threatening our wildlife.
Climate change is one of the greatest environmental challenges of our time. It affects nearly everything we do here at WWF. By warming the planet and altering weather patterns, carbon pollution is threatening wildlife and wildlife habitat--whether in the forests of the American West, the melting ice environment of the Arctic, or the disappearing coral reefs of our tropical oceans.
By contributing to increased levels of ozone and smog, unregulated carbon pollution is also increasing the risk that more Americans will suffer from lung disease and other respiratory illnesses. Already, 154 million Americans are forced to breathe dangerous levels of air pollution.
It's critical that we win this fight, and with your support we can. Already, 1 million people from across the U.S. have weighed in to support EPA's carbon pollution standards. With your help, we are aiming to double that number.
